Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a cylinder unit, in which effective areas of a low-pressure section and a high-pressure section in the cylinder are so selected that the valve element is balanced by the fluid pressure on opposite sides of the valve element, whereby selective use of low-pressure fluid and pressurized high-pressure fluid can be achieved and output corresponding to the external force acted can be produced.
CONSTITUTION: Oil is filled in chambers A, B, C, E and their passages in the cylinder. Area ratio (b) of low-pressure side cylinder section 15 and the inner sleeve of high-pressure side rod 2, effective areas (a1, a2) of valve element 5 at the low- pressure side and at the high-pressure side of piston, and value (f) of sliding resistance of valve element 5 are selected to satisfy the equation, a1p'1+f=a2bp'1(where p1 is air pressure, and p'1 is pressure exerted by fluid). In case that p1 is smaller than p'1, oil in chanber E flows into chamber B and pressure is acted to piston 6, so that a low output is produced by the cylinder unit. On the other hand, in case that p1 is greater than p'1, oil in chamber A flows into chamber B while stopping oil flow from chamber E to chamber B, and a rather high pressure is acted to the piston, so that a high output is produced by the cylinder unit.
