Abstract
PURPOSE:Mixture of NH3 and carrier gas (Rx gas) is preheated to a specified temperature at the outside of gas soft-nitriding chamber and distributed into sectioned chamber in the nitriding zone, whereby power supply to heater inside the furnace is reduced, resulting in reduce NH3 decomposition. CONSTITUTION:Mixture of NH3 gas 9 and carrier gas 10 is heated in preheater 11 to a temperature of 300-500 deg.C. Objects 20 to be treated are mounted on trucks 19 and transferred into the gas soft-nitriding furnace 1. Prfeheated gas is fed through pipes 13I to 13V and distributed into sectioned zones 4 to 8 of the furnace 1. If, for example, gas is preheated to 450 deg.C, and gas soft-nitriding furnace is at 750 deg.C, heater in the furnace requires power 1/5 of usual process where gas is heated from room temperature. Further, power load ratio is reduced from 34% to 26%. Thus, the heater surface is prevented from overheating, resulting in reduced NH3 decomposition.
