Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the width of an electromanetic rail and the weight of a field system on a vehicle, by alternately placing the vertical parts of polyphase wave- formed armature coils on both the sides of the electromagnetic rail at half a pitch.
CONSTITUTION: One vertical part 10 of each phase coil of the electromagnetic rail comprising the polyphase wave-formed armature coils is located on one side of the rail. The other vertical part 11 of the phase coil is located on the other side of the rail at a distance of half a coil pitch l from the former vertical part. Therefore, the vertical parts of the polyphase coils are alternately located on both the sides of the electromagnetic rail. The thickness of the 2n-phase rail is thus reduced to that of an (n+1)-phase rail. A space 13 is defined in the electromagnetic rail by the vertical parts 14 and horizontal parts 15 of the armature coils. A buoying-up rectilinear conductor or the like is located in the space 13.
