Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the character pattern satisfactorily without any influence upon the vagueness of a boundary by judging the pattern detecting signals adjacent to the character pattern for expressing a preset numeral which is formed in a bit pattern region.
CONSTITUTION: The bit pattern regions 10 and so on, which are formed on cylindrical letter wheels 21 and so on, are formed with the additional regions 11 and so on of magnetic and optically reflective property of the pattern corresponding to the numeral of each bit. These additional regions 11 and 11 of the adjacent regions 10 and 10 are simultaneously detected. The outputs of lead switches 22 and so on are processed by judging circuits 231, 232 and so on, which are equipped with such AND gates AND0, AND1 and so on as are turned off in accordance with the non- detecting signals having passed through the inverters INV0, INV1 and so on of the respective adjacent regions. Then, the character patterns can be detected satisfactorily and reliably without any influence from the vagueness in the boundary of the adjacent bit regions.
