Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a segment seal, which is made by first forming a partial seal element having a projection and a recess at its opposite ends by superposing a plurality of segmental plates and then combining a plurality of such seal elements in the manner that projection of one seal element is fitted in recess of the other, whereby it is enabled to improve sealingness, to reduce number of manufacturing procedures and to improve accuracy of the same.
CONSTITUTION: A partial seal element 10 having projection 11 and recess 12 at its opposite ends is at first formed by superposing a plurality of segmental plates 14 on each other in the manner that at least two segmental plates 14 are displaced circumferentially of the same. Then, a seal ring 7 is formed by combining a plurality of such seal elements 10 into a circular form in the manner that their projections and recesses are fitted with each other. By thus producing a seal ring 7 in the manner described above, machining can be made almost unnecessary in manufacturing the same and seal elements can be fitted with each other with high accuracy. Therefore, it is enabled to improve sealingness of the seal and to considerably reduce the number of manufacturing procedures.
