Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the antishock and durability of a pivot bearing by quenching a bearing body 13Cr stainless steel from a temperature of 700W1100°C, treating it by a sub-zero process and tempering it in oil.
CONSTITUTION: A bearing body 7 is initially quenched from a temperature of 700W 1100°C in nonacidic atmosphere. After it is, for example, retained at approx. 850°C initially for approx. 20 minutes in this case, it is retained at a temperature of approx. 1050°C. for 30 minutes, and then cooled in nitrogen gas or oil. The body 7 is then treated by a sub-zero process, and tempered then in oil. Thus, there is formed a hardened layer 11 having higher hardness by Vickers Hv than 500 and containing martensite structure over the depth of deeper than 10μ at least from the surface of the bearing body 7 at the bearing body 7 of 13Cr stainless steel formed with a bearing portion 8 at one end thereof.
