Abstract

PURPOSE: An antidepressant containing 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-serine as the effective ingredient that has different action mechanism from tricycle antidepressant.
CONSTITUTION: Said antidepressant contains 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-serine or its salt (DOPS) as the effective ingredient. DOPS has four optical isomers of L-threo- DOPS, D-threo-DOPS, L-erythro-DOPS and D-erythro-DOPS, of which L-threo- DOPS is the most effective. DOPS inhibits the hypothermy of mouse caused by reserpine and tetrabenazine, thus showing antidepressant activity.
