EXAMPLE: 4-Keto-5-allyl-2-cyclopentenone.
USE: An intermediate material for agricultural chemicals, e.g. cyclopentenolones, and medicines, e.g. prostaglandins.
PROCESS: A cyclopentenone compound of formula II is oxidized to give a compound of formula I.
