Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an oxygen concentration detector, which has its fundamental characteristics and durability improved, by using a thin film of platinum, which is thermally decomposed in the fuel excess atmosphere of a gasoline burning flame, as a platinum electrode to be mounted on a detecting element.
CONSTITUTION: A zirconia solid electrolyte 1 having a tubular shape is equipped with a thin film platinum electrode 2 at an atmospheric side and a thin film platinum electrode 3 at an exhaust gas side. Those platinum electrodes 2 and 3 prepared by dipping the zirconia solid electrolyte 1 in a mixed solution of chloroplatinic acid and ethyl alcohol, by drying the electrolyte, and by heating the dried electrolyte for the thermal decomposition in the atmosphere of the gasoline burning flame which has an excess percentage λ of air of 0.8 to 0.9, a CO concentration ranging from about 1 to 3% and a temperature of 550 to 1,100°C for 20 to 60min.
