Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to reduce greatly the capacity of a memory unit and a processing speed by covering lattice points with horizontal-vertical segment feature extraction masks and by judging the shape of a segment for the generation of a corresponding code.
CONSTITUTION: In the horizontal-vertical segment feature extractor, binary picture data obtained by taking a scan on a figure by input part 1 are stored temporarily in memory part 2 and the features of a segment at each lattice point are judged and cooded by horizontal-vertical segment feature extraction mask part 3 and then stored in feature memory part 4. In timing control part 5, a synchronizing signal scanning on the figure is inputted from input part 1 via signal line 101 and a scan instruction signal is transferred to input part 1 via signal line 101; and an instruction to cover lattice point 16 with segment feature extraction mask 13 is sent to memory part 2 and mask part 3 via signal lines 102 and 103, and a write signal for a segment feature code is supplied to memory part 4 via signal line 104.
