Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible in and out of light signal in arbitrary positions of one optical fiber and make multiplied use of one optical fiber by integrally providing a triangular prism or the like on the outside circumferential surface of the optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: When the photo coupler consisting of a cylindrical bar form body 1 and a triangular prism type light transmittable member 6 of a refractive index smaller than that thereof is inserted between optical fibers 3 and 4, the light 5 from the optical fiber 3 does not leak in the outer air of a smaller refractive index even after it has entered the inside of the cylindrical bar form body 1, thus this light propagates in said body. In the case of imputting the light 8 from the outside to the optical fiber 4, the refractive index of the light transmittable member 7 is so selected as to reflect the entire light having entered from the optical fiber 3 and prevent such light from going to the outside and this makes it possible to effectively draw out the light from the way of the optical fiber or adding light.
