Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply obtain dithionite with high efficiency by adding a reducing agent to a reaction system for reacting hydrogensulfite or the like and a hydroquinone type compound to obtain dithionite.
CONSTITUTION: When hydrogensulfite or pyrosulfite and a hydroquinone compound are reacted to obtain dithionite, a reducing agent, preferably sodium sulfide, sodium hydrosulfide or hydrogen sulfide is added to the reaction system to form a quinone- hydroquinone redox system. Thus, dithionite can be obtd. efficiently without requiring another process for reducing a quinone type compound to a hydroquinone type compound.
