Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize fully the nitrifying ability of a nitrifying bacteria for the regeneration of ammonia nitrogen-adsorbed zeolite by a method in which the ammonia nitrogen-adsorbed zeolite is introduced into an aq. soln. contg. nitrifying-bacteria with a specific pH, to which is added an ammonia nitrogen-desorbing compound generating an inorganic cation.
CONSTITUTION: The nitrifying bacteria-containing aqueous solution 11 is prepared by regulating its pH to 7.0W8.5 and also adding an ammonia nitrogen-desorbing compound generating an inorganic cation to the aqueous solution. Under an aerobic condition, the ammonia nitrogen-adsorbed zeorite 20 is introduced into the said nitrifying bacteria-containing aqueous solution 11, where an inorganic cation exchange occurs and therefore ammonia nitrogen is desorbed from the zeorite and then nitrified gradually by the action of the bacteria to regenerate the said zeorite. The ammonia nitrogen-desobing compound used preferably includes alkali metal salts, e.g., NaCl, etc., which are incapable of producing pH 0.8 ore more even when a necessary and sufficient amount of an inorganic salt is added.
