Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the packing density of active material by providing a plurality of grooves by pressing in part of a spongy porous metal prior to filling of the active material. CONSTITUTION:The spongy porous metal 1 of a hoop shape, not filled with an active material, is provided with a large number of the grooves 4 by pressing at a right angle to the longitudinal direction on its surface. Then, the porous metal provided with the grooves 4 is filled with an active material, the active material present in the grooves is removed, and then the porous metal is wholly pressed to obtain an electrode for cell. The preferred width of the grooves 4 are 0.5mm. or more and also the grooves 4 are preferably formed until it reaches the end of the porous metal.
