Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an FRP molded article such as a bathtub with a pattern or the like by a method wherein the reinforced plastic material and a polyester cloth with a fibrous pattern shaped into a bag-shaped configuration are laminated and loaded in-between a pair of male and female metallic molds and are molded by heat and pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A pattern cloth 3 shaped into a bag-shaped configuration is covered on a metallic male mold 1, heated all the times to a temperature lower than a melting temperature of the pattern cloth 3, along with curved surfaces of the metallic mold and an SMC material 4 of FRP, amount of which is necessary and sufficient for molding a bathtub, is laminated thereon so as to cover along the mold 1 as much as possible, thereafter, a female metallic mold 2 is covered thereon and these female and male molds 1, 2 are closed to press them. By this operation, the FRP material is melted and resin within the FRP material is transferred to a surface of the cloth by passing through networks of the pattern cloth 3, thereby, a thin transparent surface layer 5 of resin is formed and setting of the resin is initiated at this time. An unsaturated polyester resin is used as the FRP material while a woven cloth, a knitting, a bonded fabric of lace or the like of polyester fibers is used as the pattern cloth.
