Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide titled sealer which prevents topcoat from blistering and has excellent adhesiveness to a chlorinated rubber paint, consisting of a hydrolyzate of an alkyl silicate and an acrylic ester polymer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 100pts.wt. hydrolyzate of an alkyl silicate having a degree of hydrolysis of 70W120% obtd. by hydrolyzing an alkyl silicate such as ethyl silicate, butyl silicate in an alcoholic soln. by using water and an acid catalyst, is blended with (B) 20W250pt.wt. polymer obtd. from the polymn. of an acrylic ester monomer of the formula (wherein R1 is H, CH3; R2 is 1W4C alkyl) to obtain the compsn. If necessary, a pigment, except zinc dust, and/or an acidic or a basic catalyst as a curing accelerator is added to the compsn. to obtain a sealer for rust-inhibiting coating. The pigment is used in an amount of not more than 20vol% based on the volume of the compsn. The surface of a steel structure is coated with an inorg. zinc- rich primer. The sealer is coated on the coating of the zinc-rich primer. Then a chlorinated rubber paint is coated on the coating of the sealer.
