CONSTITUTION: A material Mi is introduced into a heating furnace 1 by a charger 2 and conveyed to a preheating zone 1A→a homogenously heating zone 1C by a walking beam 10. An introducing stroke quantity of said material Mi in this time is detected by a detector 15 and a walking beam stroke quantity of said material Mi within the furnace after said material has been introduced is detected by a detector 16. On the basis of both volues, a position from an extracting position is detected by each of said material by a calculator 11 and, during stopping of said calculator 11, a hardware 14 calculates a walking beam stroke quantity from the detector 16 and, when said calculator 11 starts to operate, this calculated stroke quantity is provided to permit to detect a position of the material Mi within the furnace after said calculator 11 is restored.
