Abstract

PURPOSE: To control clattering of a parking brake mechanism while the service brake is in action, by placing a spring between a screw of strut and a strut tube fitted loose to the screw.
CONSTITUTION: As a clevis 16 is pulled in the F direction through control of a parking brake lever, the control lever 7 is turned with rollers 9, 10 as fulcrums, its lug 7a pushes a shoe 3 outward, a screw 12 pushes another shoe 3' outward and a brake drum 1 is braked through linings 4, 4'. As the service brakes are applied, the shoes 3, 3' are expanded through extension of a cylinder 5 to provide the brake force. If a strut S is in a position as shown in the figure, a clearance is produced between both shoes 3, 3', which can cause clattering, but a spring 20 put between an adjusting nut 14 and a strut tube 13 is extended to curb the clattering.
