The control signal D read out from the control track of VTR1 is converted into the pick up gate signal E at the gate production circuit 2. This pick up gate signal E is fed to the video gate circuit 3 to output the video signal F for one field's share from the video gate circuit 3. The pick up gate signal E is produced once at n fields, and it is in agreement when the video head scans almost the center of the video track, the optimum video signal can automati- cally be picked up in the slow motion reproduction using the auxiliary recorder.
