Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent engine torque from being insufficient and operating feeling from being deteriorated by maintaining a fuel-air ratio under return control stop on the rich side, and by constituting a fuel-air return control system so that the fuel-air ratio may be adjusted to the lean side intermittently.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel-air ratio return controller is equipped with a monitor circuit 15, which determines whether a fuel-air ratio sensor 12 detects whether the gas condition is inactive or not and outputs monitor signals when the sensor is inactive, and an operating condition detector 7, which detects engine cooling water temperature and suction air volume. The system also permits a return stop circuit 16 to output stop signals which halt return control action for the fuel-air ratio when either monitor signals from the monitor circuit 15 or engine warming up signals from detector 7 are input. The system also allows a fuel-air ratio change-over circuit 17 to change-over the fuel-air ratio to the excessive lean side when the above- stated signals are not entered from the detector 7 while monitor signals are entered from the monitor circuit 15.
