Abstract

PURPOSE: A thixotropic, semisolid, low freezing point composition which protects driving members from freezing due to coldness, comprising, as main components, water, an alcohol, polyacrylic acid or a salt thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A low freezing point composition prepared by thickening a mixture of (A) water and (B) at least one alcohol with (C) polyacrylic acid or a salt thereof. Examples of the component (B) include methanol, ethanol and ethylene glycol. The weight ratio of (A) to (B) is preferably 5:1W1:1. With respect to the amount of (C), usually, 0.1W3wt% is satisfactory to obtain a desirable effect.
