Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve an effect of sealing for a hermetically sealed automatic adjustment device for valve clearances that drives intake and exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine, by engageably capping a ball seat onto the top end of a plunger and coupling it to the mounting part of an elastic seal at a face-to-face position to said seat. CONSTITUTION:To the bottom end of a ball seat 32 which is engagreably capped onto a plunger 17 and moved as an integral unit with the plunger, the mounting part of an elastic seal 30 at the plunger side is permitted to adhere or processed by a baking as an integral unit, causing the elastic seal 30 to be moved while being held to the ball seat 32 and the close attachment fully kept between the plunger 17 and the elastic seal 30. While the other mounting part of the elastic seal at the lifter side is also pressed and fixed to inner circumferential surfaces of the lifter 16 by a reinforcement ring 31, allowing the elastic seal 30 not to generate a displacement of its position, fully correspond to a high speed operation and surely absorb an expansion of volume of oil due to the temperature rise of oil.
