Abstract

PURPOSE: To simultaneously form acrivated zinc white and white carbon of pure- white appearance with a good recovery rate by reacting a zincate soln. and a soln. contg. Na2CO3 and sodium silicate obtd. by extracting hot iron desulfurization slag with water and by calcining coprecipitates of basic zinc carbonate and silicic acid hydrate formed.
CONSTITUTION: Slag of hot iron desulfurization with soda ash is extracted with water until Na2CO3 becomes above 3g/l and Na2SiO3 above 1 g/l. The extraction is pref. carried out at 60°C. The extract soln. is mixed with a purified zinc sulfate or zinc chloride soln. and subjected to neutralization reaction at pH 7.0W10.5 and above 50°C to form coprecipitates of basic zinc carbonate and silicic acid hydrate. The coprecipitates are then filtration-separated and calcined at 500W1000°C to simultaneously form activated zinc white and white carbon.
