Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform strong connection free from any connection loss by connecting the connecting parts of the two optical fibers having been stripped of their clads by a light-shieldable and shrinkable tubular or annular connecting medium, aligning the centers by way of V-grooves and connecting these by means of liquid adhesive agent and by using ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:In the connection parts of optical fibers 1, part of the clad 2 is stripped and these parts are passed into the connecting medium 3 of a tubular or annular strip of the material which is different from that of the fibers and has high light shieldability and shrinkability. This is then placed on a liquid vessel 5 provided with V-grooves 4 at both ends and the centers of the fibers are aligned. Liquid adhesive agent 6 obtained through solvent treatement of the same quality as that of the fibers or glass quality is filled in the liquid vessel 5 and the adhesive agent is deposited on the connecting parts by the cavitation action owing to the operation of an ultrasonic vibrator 7. When the ultrasonic waves are stopped and cooling and drying are done, the fibers are connected in the state that their faces are in contact with each other. Hence, the strong connection free from any connection loss at all is accomplished.
