Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent breaking of a wire, formation of air bubbles, etc. and to enable good joining of glass by putting a sealing metal body between the joining surfaces of glass members to be joined and by heating the body with a current according to a predetermined program.
CONSTITUTION: Sealing metal body 1 is put between joining surfaces 5, 6 of glass members 3, 4 to be joined. Body 1 is obtd. by welding terminal parts 2 of two metal wires 1a, 1b made of iron-Ni alloy and by forming the welded wires into a shape corresponding to surfaces 5, 6. Body 1 is heated with a current from power source 7. At this time, a small current is first supplied to preheat the vicinities of surfaces 5, 6 to about 500°C, and the current is changed according to a predetermined program. After well melting the vicinities of surfaces 5, 6 the current supply is stopped, and joining of members 3, 4 is finished by gradually cooling the vicinities. Thermal expansion of body 1 is uniformly dispersed, so slipping-out of body 1 is minimized.
