Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of precipitation in electrolytic bath and to efficiently carry out electrolysis, by circulating the aqueous solution of caustic alkali produced in the cathode room to the salt water and supplying the above salt water to the anode room after precipitating Ca, Mg ions in the salt water and removing them.
CONSTITUTION: The salt water 1 containing Ca and Mg ions, is sent to the reactor 2 and is mixed with the caustic soda aqueous solution 3 supplied to the reactor 2 and pH is adjusted at 11 or more. As a result of it, CaCO3 and Mg(OH)2 are precipitated at the lower part of the reactor 2. Further, the salt water 4 nearly removed Ca and Mg ions, is stored in the supply solution storage tank 5 and is supplied to the anode room 9 of the electrolytic bath 8 partitioned by the neutral diaphragm 7 by the pump 6 and then, chlorine gas, chlorine water or sodium hypochlorite, are formed in the room 9 by electrolysis. Aqueous solution of caustic soda and hydrogen are formed inthe cathode room 10 and these are separated in the gas-liquid separator 11 and then, the aqueous solution of caustic soda is sent to the reactor 2.
