Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide sludge with the dehydration effect, without the use of toxic chemical such as ferric chloride, etc., to the same degree as its use by a method wherein sludge being treated discharged from a water treatment unit is deionized and then freezed and melted.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge discharged from a water treatment unit 21 is directly supplied to a sludge deionization unit 22 to lower the ion concentration of sludge being treated. The deionized sludge is then guided in a freeze-melt unit 3. This results in lowered specific electric conductivity (ion concentration) of the sludge which leads to an enhanced efficiency of the freeze-melt unit 3. Applicable sludge deionization units contain an ion exchange resin filled tower, an electric dialyzer, or backosmosis unit.
