Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce operating cost of a diesel engine, by setting two kinds of fuel tanks prepared for low- and high-quality fuel respectively and using each fuel properly through selecting devices in accordance with the operating conditions of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: Fuel tanks 1, 1' prepared for low- and high-quality fuel, respectively are equipped with three-way valves 5A, 5B for fuel selection. For starting an engine, the valves are switched from the high-quality fuel tank 1' to the low-quality fuel tank 1, and vice versa for changing from load operation to no-load operation. With this fuel system, high-quality fuel is in use a certain time after the engine is geared to no-load operation and if the engine is interrupted at this moment, high- quality fuel is used for the following engine start. The engine temperature rises while consuming high-quality fuel residual in the fuel supply system after starting, and then the engine is smoothly geared to operation with low-quality fuel.
