Abstract

PURPOSE: To locate the hit portion without using any high voltage impulse by flowing weak current at all times across the communication cable, detecting the impulse current at the occurrence of a hit fault and measuring the distance up to the hit portion.
CONSTITUTION: A return signal cable 2 and supervising cable 1 are connected at the points B and C and weak current is being held supplied at all times thereto from a weak current feed part 3. If it is assumed that a hit occurs at the X point of the supervising cable, the impulse current generated at the X point flows toward the A and B directions and begins to propagate at the same time. The time from the time when the impulse current went toward the A direction arrived at A until the impulse current went toward the B direction arrives at the point D by way of the points B, C is twice the time required for the same to propagate for the distance X between XWB. Hence, the distance x between XWB, that is, the distance between the hit occuring place and the cable terminal installation place T may be calculated from the intrinsic propagation speed of the supervising cable.
