CONSTITUTION: A protectant comprising at least one type of thiosemicarbazone derivative of formula I: (R1 is phenyl or methyl group; R2 is H or 1W10C alkyl group; R3 is ethoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino group, etc.; R4 is H, lower alkyl, phenyl group, etc.), e.g. acetoacetic ethyl ester thiosemicarbazone as an active constituent. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a b-keto acid ester or amide of formula II with a thiosemicarbazide of formula III.
