Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an aminophenol and phenylenediamine, particularly aminophenol, in high yield, by aminating a dihydric phenol with ammonia or an amine in the presence of a specific metal phosphate.
CONSTITUTION: A dihydric phenol, e.g. resorcinol, is aminated with NH3, a primary or secondary amine in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one type of (a) compound selected from Zn and Ni phosphates and (b) ammonium phosphate in the absence or presence of a solvent at 210W300°C to give an aminophenol and phenylene diamine. Preferably, the catalyst comprises 0.05W0.5g-atom calculated as the metal atom of (a) and 0.2 mole of (b) based on one mole of the phenol.
USE: Medicines, pesticides, dyes, rubber chemicals, additires for synthetic resins, and raw materials or modifiers for polyamides.
