PURPOSE: To enhance the utilization rate of luminuous flux and improve the aberrations at the peripheral part of the projection screen by interposing two kinds of light media between the light emitting surface and concave mirror of the projection type picture image display device which magnifies and projects television images, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The refractive index μ2 of the light medium 25 between a reflecting mirror 27 and luminous flux exit face 29 is made larger than the refractive index μ1 of a light medium 24. With such constitution, refractive effect is caused by the boundary face 30 so that the rays (a), (b), (c) are changed to (a'), (b'), (c') respectively and the ray (a') becomes less convergent than (a) and the ray (c') has a greater tendency to conversion than (c) but the ray (b) does not change so much with respect to (b). Hence, the aberrations at the periphery of the screen 22 may be considereably improved owing to the refraction effect at the above- mentioned boundary face 30 and if these refractive indices μ1, μ2, etc. are suitably adjusted, the image projection system of extremely less aberrations becomes feasible.
