Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of the size accuracy of a molded article and largely extend the working life of the mold by lowering the using temperature of the mold as the mold is worn when producing the molded article by a powder metallurgical process in the mold.
CONSTITUTION: When producing a powder molded article from a powdered metallic stock in a mold by a powder metallurgical process, the mold is fabricated by an austenite steel material having large thermal expansion coefficient. The mold is used at an elevated temperature while it is new, and used at reduced temperature when it is worn. When the powder molded article is hot forged with powder, the mold is used at the temperature range of 150W300°C and used at the temperature range of -50W550°C when forming the article by a process except the powder hot forging process. According to this method, even if the mold is worn due to use, the size accuracy of the molded article is high, and the mold can be economically used for long term with less expenses.
