Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable superior development for a long term, by cleaning a roller for liquid development with an elastic foam body formed with elastic material provided with a foam portion on the surface and soaked with a developer. CONSTITUTION:Developing roller 19 composed of net structure 23, elastic foam structure 22, etc. is in contact to photosensitive drum 11 and a latent image on drum 11 is developed with a developing fluid squeezed by elastic deformation due to compression. When roller 19 separates from drum 11, an excess of the developing fluid is absorbed with foam structure 22. On the other hand, solid developer etc. absorbed to roller 19 by potential difference between roller 19 and drum 11 in developing are removed sufficiently by pressure sliding of cleaner 24 composed of an elastic material and a foam structure on the surface soaked in the developing fluid. This structure prevents impairment of the roller, permitting development free of fog or the like to be performed, and further, deterioration of the developing fluid to be reduced as well as long term superior development to be achieved.
