Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the effect of mass production, by constituting a thick film optical transmission path by laminating transparent dielectric thin sheet of which refractive index in the widthwise direction is forming a square distribution, with low refractive index dielectrics.

CONSTITUTION: For example, in an applied case of liquid detecting element, a focusing thick film lens 1 has two slopes 2, 3 of which ends form a right angle, and the light 5 entering from an optical fiber 4 is totally reflected by the slope 2 and then the slope 3, and is coupled with the optical fiber 4. When a liquid exists outside, presence or absence of the liquid may be detected by the fluctuations of the output of the light sent out from the optical fiber. In the sectional drawing, since the thick film lens 1 and optical fiber 4 are almost identical in structure in the thicknesswise direction, a core layer 7 and a core 8 may be matched together simply by placing on a substrate 6. The core layer 7 is obtained by thinly slicing a lens medium, optically polishing both the sides, blanking into an identical shape, and laminating with low refractive index dielectrics 9. Since even slices of special shape may be polished by setting together, the effect of mass production is very large.
