Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of control unit, by employing an arrangement for means for detecting the operational condition of λ sensor for detecting the components of exhaust gas, in which starter signal of engine and other items are compared with respective reference values preset in a control unit.
CONSTITUTION: Signals from water-temperature sensor 5, crank angle sensor 6 and sensor 3 for detecting the air flow rate in intake pipe 2 connected to combustion chamber 1 are afforded to control unit 4. The control unit 4 calculates the quantity of fuel to be injected and causes injection of fuel from fuel injection valve 7. Further, output of λ sensor 9 for detecting the components of exhaust gas in exhaust pipe 8 is also afforded to control unit 4 for correcting the fuel injection rate. Here, in order to detect the operational condition of the λ sensor 9, at least four items out of starter signal of engine, temperature of cooling water, time after starting of engine, engine speed, quantity of intake air, output voltage of λ sensor 9 and vehicle speed are compared with respective reference values preset in control unit 4.
