Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the hermetic seal and the welding strength by a method wherein a glass pane is inserted into a through hole of a ceramic plate and heated with bare flame of gas combustion and a glass window is fabricated by welding hermetically around the through hole through being pressed against it when viscosity of fused glass pane lies in the range of a specified region. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic plate 3 is supported at both sides on a supporting base 2 made of materials which have low heat conductivity and high thermal shock strength such as a glass ceramic. Beneath the central part of the ceramic plate, a pressing bed 5 made of a material that does not adhere to the glass pane such as graphite is provided. A through hole 10 is provided at the central part of a ceramic plate and a glass pane 4 is inserted into it. Above the pressing bed a pressing rod 7 which is drived vertically is fixed at a pressing member 6. Viscosity of the glass is maintained to be 10<3.2>-10<7> poise with a burner 9 which eject flame from the outer side of the supporting base 2 to the central part and the glass window is formed by pressing glass pane onto the pressing bed with the pressing rod. A hermetically sealed glass window for EPROM is efficiently fabricated.
