Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily make a cross-linked rubber or plastic tube of very small diameter, by projecting ionizing radiation upon a rubber or plastic tube to cross-link it while moving the tube wherein a core is inserted. CONSTITUTION:A tube 1 of rubber or plastic such as polyethylene, which can be cross-linked, is extruded so that a core 2 of Tetoron yarn is inserted in the hollow part of the tube. For example, the tube is made from polyethylene. An electron beam is irradiated upon the polyethylene tube 1 to cross-link it while the tube with the core 2 inserted therein is moved through between pairs of sheaves at many times. The cross-linked polyethylene tube is wound around a bobbin.
