PURPOSE: To increase the productivity of coenzyme Q in microbial bodies, by incubating bacteria or yeasts having the ability to produce coenzyme Q in the presence of a choline or betaine.
CONSTITUTION: Bacteria or yeasts having the ability to produce coenzyme Q, e.g. Pseudomonas extraquens or Candida curvata, are incubated in a medium or culture fluid comprising choline or a compound, e.g. chlorinated choline, capable of forming choline in water, or a betaine, e.g. glycine betaine or γ-butyrobetaine.
