Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce gearing noise and wear and give a smooth touch for shifting by providing between a synchronous hub and a coupling sleeve, an insert which applies the hub and sleeve with a preload immediately before their contact.
CONSTITUTION: A synchronous hub 2 has a groove 2a to which an insert 6 is fit. The insert 6 has a protrusion 6a to be meshed with a groove 4a in a coupling sleeve 4. The protrusion 6a is depressed by a circular locking spring 19 in the axial direction of the hub to contact with the coupling sleeve 4. A spring 9 is disposed between a clutch gear 11 and a forward gear 7 to give the clutch gear 11 a tendency of shifting towards the synchronous hub 2. Now, when a shift fork 5 is moved in the direction of the forward gear 7, the insert 6 applies a preload on the clutch gear 11. Only the sleeve 4 is thereafter shifted so that a speed can be smoothly changed.
