Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titledbinder which produces briquette having good abrasion resistance, by a method wherein an atactic polymer or a product obtd. by the heat treatment of the polymer with a solvent is mixed with a product obtd. by adding an alkali to asphalt or pitch and heat-treating the mixt., and the resulting mixt. is heated with stirring.
CONSTITUTION: (a) An atactic polymer which is an industrial waster by-produced in the production of a stereoregular polymer, is used. Alternatively, a solvent, such as xylene or kerosene, is added to the atactic polymer in an amount ranging from 1.5 to 3 times by weight of the polymer. The mixt. is heated with stirring at a temp. of 100W150°C to dissolve the polymer. (b) A dilute solution of alkali such as sodium hydroxide is added to asphalt or pitch. The mixt. is heated with stirring at a temp. of 160W200°C to dissolve the asphalt or the pitch. The atactic polymer (a) or the product obtd. by the heat treatment of the polymer is mixed with the product (b) obtd. by the heat treatment of the asphalt or the pitch in an appropriate ratio. The mixt. is heated with stirring to obtain in the desired binder.
