Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve longitudinal strength and elastic modulus, by stretching a sheet obtained by the melt-extrusion of a mixture of a specified amount of high- density polyethylene resin and a specified amount of an α-olefin copolymer longitudinally with a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a high-density polyethylene resin 98W60wt% and a thermoplastic elastomer 2W40wt% made of an α-olefin copolymer is melt-extruded to form a sheet. Then, the sheet is heated at a temperature 5W60°C lower than the crystal melting point of the high-density polyethylene resin and stretched longitudinally between a pair of nip rollers at least three-fold. Thus, a uniaxially oriented film is obtained with a rate of gelation of 0W80% indicating the extent of cross-linking and a longitudinal tensile modulus of at least 250kg/mm2. The film thus obtained is hard to tear with a large longitudinal strength and elastic modulus as well as a proper latitudinal strength.
