Abstract
PURPOSE: To effect the ester exchange reaction of a carboxylic ester and an alcohol, in highly efficiency and selectivity, by using an iron complex coordinated with a specific coordinator as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The ester exchange of a carboxylic ester (e.g. methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate) and an alcohol is carried out using a catalyst comprising an iron complex coordinated with a coordinator shown in formula I (R1WR7 are H, alkyl, alicyclic, or aromatic; R1 and R2, R2 and R3 and/or R4 and R5 may together form alicyclic or aromatic) or formula II (e.g. N,N'-disalicylidene ethylenediaminate). The iron salt and the compound of formula III and IV may be separately added into the reaction. For example, the compound of formula III and IV is prepared and then made to react with the Fe salt to form the Fe complex.
