Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a feed for fish farming having high feed efficiency, by adding a mucous mixture of three kinds of vegetable gums to the raw material of feed, thereby synergistically increasing the gel-forming properties of the gum, and coagulating the feed effectively with a small amount of the binder.
CONSTITUTION: A mucous mixture consisting of gum guaiac obtained from wood of Guajacum officinale L., locust bean gum obtained from kernel endosperm of locust bean, and xanthan gum which is a polysaccharide produced by the cultivation of Xanthomonas campestris, is added to the raw material of feed. The amount of the mixture is as low as 0.2W1.0wt% based on the feed. The combined use of the above three kinds of gums, prevents the disintegration and dissipation of the feed in water, improves the feed efficiency, and reduces the water pollution. The feed can be applied both freshwater fish and saltwater fish.
