Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure with high accuracy the altitude distribution of the direction and speed of wind in the upper sky in the atmosphere by irradiating beams of rdio waves on the surface of the wave of condensation and rarefaction in air density formed by sound waves advancing in the atmosphere in three directions to detect the Doppler shift frequencies reflected from three directions by the wave surfaces. CONSTITUTION:The transmitting outpt from radio wave transmitters 4, 4' and 4'' are transmitted in the atmosphere through transmitting antennas 5, 5' and 5'' toward the directions of axis A, axis B and axis C. On the other hand, a tone burst signal generator 3 is driven by a control signal 2 to generate threee groups of tone burst singals. The tone burst signals have mutually set time intervals, and are supplied to sound wave transmitters 6, 6' and 6'' and successively radiated as pulse sounds throgh sound wave radiators 7, 7' and 7'' for axes A, B and C. When beams of radio waves from the antennas 5, 5' and 5'' are injected to the faces of sound wave propagated in three directions, respective radio waves are reflected, and received by receiver antennas 8, 8' and 8''. Only the Doppler shift frequency band signal due to the reflection from the sound wave face is derived, and the direction and speed of wind are computed 11 at every predetermined altitude, and recroded 12.
