Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve heat insulation between back metals and base metals in a thrust bearing comprising plural layers of bearing shoes, by employing an arrangement in which the side face of back metal located on the side of oil outlet port of a oil passage is projected outwards from the end face of base matal.
CONSTITUTION: In the side face at the joint of back metal 8 and base metal 9a, base metal 9a is projected to form a step on the side of oil inlet port of oil passage 11 as in the conventional arrangements. On the other hand, base metal 9a is retracted slightly from back metal 8 on the side of oil outlet port of oil passage 11, that is, the side face of back metal 8 is projected outwards from the end face of base metal 9a. With such an arrangement, oil flow passing through oil passage 11 joins with oil ejected from cooling-oil pipes 12 and flowing along the taper of back metal 8, and oil flow is directed along the side face of base metal 9a. Therefore, oil flow is rendered smooth and oil flow in oil passage 11 is promoted through confluence with oil ejected from pipes 12. At the same time, it is prevented that bubbles contained in oil are concentrated at the joint portion of back metal 8 and base metal 9a.
