Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain excellent durability with a catalyst sensor improved by providing a protective layer made of a refractory substance on an electrode at the side of unbalanced exhaust gas from a vehicle enging, etc., and by stacking more than one specific double-coating layers on it. CONSTITUTION:On the inner circumferential surface of a cylindrical ion-conductive solid-state electrolyte with one terminal closed, the 1st electrode is bonded and on its outer circumferential surface, the 2nd electrode 3 of Pt or the like is applied to a thickness of 0.5 to 2mu. Electrode 3 coming in contact with ZrO2 particles 1 of the solid-state electrolyte is porous, allowing exhaust gas to pass through. On electrode 3, refractory oxide particles of preferably the same kind as the solid-state electrolyte are applied by plasma-spraying to form electrode protective layer 4 to a recommendable thickness of 20 to 200mu. On the layer, a double-coating layer consisting of catalyst layer 5 of Pt or the like of 0.5 to 100mu in thickness and catalyst protective layer 6 similar to layer 4 is provided by electroless plating.
