Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to estimate the value of surge current exactly by a method wherein a magnetic body having a rectangular hysteresis characteristic and connected in series with a surge absorber is magnetized by surge current, and the flux remaining in the magnetic body is taken out as output voltage by readout pulse current.
CONSTITUTION: The primary wiring 5 and the secondary wiring 7 pass through the inside of toroidal magnetic body 6 having a rectangular hysteresis characteristic. The primary wiring 5 is connected in series with a surge absorber 2 and the secondary wiring 7 is open at its both ends 10, 11. When surge current flows from terminal 8 toward terminal 9 magnetic flux density B1 is produced by magnetic field H1 inside magnetic body 6. Since flux B1 remains after the surge current flowed, under this condition, readout pulse current is impressed from terminal 11 to terminal 10, and the output voltage produced between terminals 8 and 9 is measured by an oscilloscope. By having measured the relationship between output voltage and surge current in advance, it is possible to estimate the value of surge current accurately.
