Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the secondary short-circuit protective gap for a condenser- type potential transformer and to simplify the constitution with the initial performance maintained for a long period of times, by using a magnetic material with a low saturation magnetic flux density and a high permeability for the iron core of the resonance reactor of the transformer.
CONSTITUTION: The potential transformer consists of a main capacitor C1 and a voltage-dividing capacitor C2 in series, and a transformer T and a resonance reactor L' in series connected across the capacitor C2. In this constituton, a magnetic material with a low saturation magnetic flux density and a high permeability, such as permalloy, is used for the iron core of the resonance reactor L'. Thus, even if the secondary short-circuit occurs and the terminal voltage of the reactor L' is raised, it is saturated at around from two to five times the rated voltage due to the low saturation magnetic flux density, so that the resonance condition of the parallel impedance the capacitances C1, C2 and the reactor L' is detuned, and the short-circuit current is restrained. Therefore, a protective gap for the reactor L' can be eliminated.
