PURPOSE:To make it possible to omit an expensive low-frequency narrow-fractional-band filter by using a discrimination signal obtained by reducing and filtering the beat signal of a phase detection output, phase by phase. CONSTITUTION:In stereo program reception, a pilot signal is amplitude-modulated at 983Hz, and consequently a component of 54.142kHz resides in the output of lower-sideband BPF31. This signal is mixed by phase detectors 38 and 39 with another signal of reference input signal 55/16fp 54.141kHz into a beat output of about 1Hz. Since this signal is within the passing bands of LPF's 44 and 45, it is transmitted. In duplex sound program reception, on the other hand, the beat frequency is about 61Hz since the pilot amplitude modulation frequency is about 923Hz, so that the signal will be cut off by LPF's 42 and 43. The output of adder 46 can therefore be used as a stereo program discrimination signal.
